Position Overview
As an HVAC Technician – Heat Pump Specialist, you will be responsible primarily for the installation of residential HVAC systems, with a strong emphasis on ductless heat pump systems and ducted systems with ductwork modifications needed.
This role is installation-focused mainly and does involve some routine maintenance or full-service diagnostics. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on installation experience and proven expertise working with modern heat pump technologies in residential environments. There will be a strong focus on sheet metal fabrication for residential centrally ducted systems. You will work both indoors and outdoors, including confined mechanical spaces, and play a key role in delivering high-quality installations that meet Prestige’s safety, performance, and customer satisfaction standards.

Key Responsibilities Installations
● Perform residential HVAC installations with a strong focus on ducted and ductless heat pump systems
● Install air handlers, mini-splits, multi-zone systems, ventilation components, and related equipment
● Complete installations in accordance with manufacturer specifications, provincial codes, and company standards
● Execute refrigerant piping, electrical connections, condensate management, and airflow configuration
System Start-Up & Commissioning
● Perform system start-up, testing, and operational verification
● Confirm proper airflow, refrigerant performance, and system efficiency following installation
● Ensure systems are fully operational prior to project completion
Service & Diagnostics:
● Perform system start-ups after installation to confirm proper operation
● Conduct operational testing and airflow verification
● Provide occasional preventative maintenance as needed
● Perform basic troubleshooting and minor service adjustments
● Ensure installed systems operate safely and efficiently
Customer Communication
● Educate homeowners on system operation, controls, and basic maintenance
● Represent the company professionally on all job sites
Quality Assurance
● Verify workmanship quality and installation accuracy
● Maintain clean and organized workspaces throughout installations
Documentation
● Complete installation reports, commissioning documentation, and compliance paperwork accurately and on time
Safety Compliance
● Follow all company safety policies and provincial regulations
● Work safely in attics, crawlspaces, basements, rooftops, and outdoor environments
Qualifications
● Heat Pump Installation Certification or Manufacturer Training Required
● Minimum 6-8 years of residential HVAC installation experience
● Proven experience installing ducted and ductless heat pump systems
● Strong understanding of refrigeration fundamentals and installation best practices
● Strong sheet metal skills related to residential ducted installations
● Ability to work in confined spaces and physically demanding environments
● Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
● Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
Required Certifications
● Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certification
● Heat Pump Installation Certification or equivalent manufacturer training
● Trade certification or apprenticeship experience in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
Trade certification recognized through the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency is considered strongly preferred.
Assets
● Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic Certification (Red Seal or in progress)
● Experience mentoring apprentices or helpers
● Electrical or airflow balancing experience
● Residential retrofit installation experience
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
